For the financial years 2010/11, 2011/12 and 2012/13 please state:

  • The gross cost to the Trust because of delayed transfers of care (before taking into account reimbursements from local authorities)
  • The gross cost to the Trust because of delayed transfers of care where Social Care was responsible for the delay (before taking into account reimbursements from local authorities)
  • The total sum received from local authorities in reimbursements for delayed transfers of care

 

Details of the Response

a) The gross cost to the Trust because of delayed transfers of care (before taking into account reimbursements from local authorities)

The Trust is not able to provide a cost for this due to the individual nature of the patients involved, however the Trust recorded the following bed day numbers due to delayed transfers of care: 2010/11 9,246; 2011/12 8,997 and 2012/13 8,676

 

b) The gross cost to the Trust because of delayed transfers of care where Social Care was responsible for the delay (before taking into account reimbursements from local authorities)

As above the Trust is not able to provide a cost for this, however the Trust recorded the following bed day numbers due to delayed transfers of care where Social Services were recorded as responsible: 2010/11 1,051; 2011/12 1,910 and 2012/13 2,124;

 

c) The total sum received from local authorities in reimbursements for delayed transfers of care

The Trust invoiced the following to local authorities for delayed transfer of care: 2010/11 £0; 2011/12 £0 and 2012/13 £720. The Trust charges at £120 per bed day.

However you have provided the number of bed days rather than the cost of these bed days.

If you can provide me with the Trust’s average bed cost (not the national DoH average bed cost) I am happy to carry out the calculation myself.

The average bed day cost for our main adult wards, excluding critical care and high dependency units, is £240.
