Please provide figures for each year for the last 5 years. Please specify how many were under 18 – and how many were 18 and over.
     
  2. How many people/patients/cases have been referred to other bodies eg social services/police because of a belief FGM has been carried out? Please detail which bodies the cases were refered to.
     
  3. Please provide details of how many/the percentage of medical staff eg doctors/nurses/midwives who have received training relating to FGM.
     
  4. Please provide details of what that training involves – including any relevant paperwork/handouts/training literature.

 

Details of the Response

1. How many people/patients have been seen by the trust who are believed to have had female genital mutilation (FGM) carried out upon them (eg injuries/wounds/scars associated with FGM)? Please provide figures for each year for the last 5 years. Please specify how many were under 18 – and how many were 18 and over.

Between January 2014 – April 2014 the Trust identified 3 cases of FGM: all were over the age of 18 years. Since April 2014, women are asked at their first appointment about FGM. Earlier data is available in FOI request 3257.

 

2. How many people/patients/cases have been referred to other bodies eg social services/police because of a belief FGM has been carried out? Please detail which bodies the cases were referred to.

Two cases were referred to Surrey Children’s Services and one case requested that her GP be informed in case of any future pregnancies.

 

3. Please provide details of how many/the percentage of medical staff eg doctors/nurses/midwives who have received training relating to FGM.

From January 2014 all maternity annual personal development safeguarding training includes information regarding FGM.

From January 2014 all Trust-wide training Level 2 and Level 3 Safeguarding includes training on FGM.

 

4. Please provide details of what that training involves – including any relevant paperwork/handouts/training literature.

Training involves a 2 hour mandatory session annually for all staff who come into patient/children contact. The presentation was sent to the requester.
