In relation to the firearms incident at Pennypot Lane, Chobham, Communications Manager, Andy Hollebon said:

“At 10:00a.m. today (Wednesday 16th March) a private car pulled up outside the Accident and Emergency Department at St. Peter’s Hospital, Chertsey. The car contained a 45 year old man who had earlier been critically injured. Staff transferred the man to the resuscitation area of the A&E Department and, despite doing everything possible to resuscitate him, he was declared dead at 10:36a.m.

“Because of the nature of the injuries sustained by the man, Surrey Police attended the Accident & Emergency Department. The resuscitation area was closed until mid-afternoon whilst Surrey Police conducted their inquiries. Whilst serious trauma cases were diverted to other hospitals during this time the A&E Department remained open.

“Shortly after 10:00a.m. around 60 relatives and friends of the man arrived at St. Peter’s. Although obviously distressed at the sad news of his death the relatives and friends of the man maintained a dignified presence and they had left the St. Peter’s site by early afternoon.”
