To celebrate 40 years of broadcasting, Hospital Radio Wey is hosting a birthday party at the Ship Hotel, Weybridge on Saturday 15th October.

Many of the original team will be there and the station is keen to invite anyone who has been associated with Hospital Radio Wey over the years, and anyone else who is interested to come along.

With a three-course meal and music provided by the presenters, it promises to be a great night out. To add to the fun, the night will be fancy dress (optional) - the theme being fashions and trends from the last 40 years.

The Hospital Radio Wey Grand Draw, with prizes up to £1000, will also take place during the evening.

Hospital Radio Wey first began broadcasting to Weybridge Hospital from the “shoe box” in October 1965, which to put things into perspective makes it older than Radio 1, Radio 2 and all of the UK commercial stations, not bad considering it is self funding and totally run by volunteers.

In its time the service could be heard in most hospitals in North - West Surrey and Middlesex and currently broadcasts to Ashford, St Peters and Weybridge Hospitals. Many famous broadcasters began their careers with the station including former Radio 1 presenter, Mike Read and Smooth’s FM Russell Pocket.
