Purpose, Aim, and Objectives
The appraisal process is an integral part of the Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s (ASPH) performance and talent management system.
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that the Trust has a clear, consistent and fair approach to appraisal.
The overall aim of the appraisal process is to ensure that through a range of effective mechanisms, staff have the skills, knowledge and behaviours to provide the highest standards of safe direct and indirect care to patients.
The objectives of the appraisal are to ensure that both the line manager and employee feel they have had an opportunity to discuss, and record, the following:
- The employees performance over the last 12 months
- The employees leadership style (if applicable)
- Any 360 feedback received
- How the employee has modelled the 4 P’s over the last 12 months
- The employee’s health and well-being
- The outcomes that both the employee and line manager would like to see in the coming 12 months, linked to the strategic objectives.
Open, honest and regular conversations between line managers and employees are key to the success of the organisation achieving our strategic objectives. Encouraging employees to be proud about the work they do and honest about the way they feel, ensures we can create a culture of openness and honesty.
Organisations who champion open and honest conversations, impact on the overall engagement and motivation of the workforce. In turn, positively impacting on the retention of staff and becoming an employer of choice.
