Introduction
The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 places duties on employers to ensure the health, safety and welfare at work of employees and of all those connected with the Trust’s activities. In addition there is a statutory duty for employers to produce a statement of its policy on health and safety at work.
This document is the Health and Safety Policy of the Ashford and St. Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and reflects the views of the Trust on all matters relating to health, safety and welfare and encompasses the Trust value of personal responsibility.
The policy reflects the NHS sustainability agenda and the vision of Health Care Without Harm including:
- Responsible waste management
- Use of safer chemicals
- Healthy food
- Reduction of toxic materials
A safe and healthy working environment is not only a legal requirement; it is a reasonable expectation for employees, patients and visitors to our hospitals.
