Executive Summary

Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (ASPH) recognises that Advanced Clinical Practice plays an important role in the delivery of high-quality services to patients who use our services. The purpose of this policy is to identify the governance and other structures needed to support Advanced Clinical Practice and the Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) safety in the workforce. This policy is applicable to all health care professionals in ASPH who are ACPs qualified, in training or who wish to become one. ASPH needs to ensure they have a workforce from different professions, with the right skills and experience, working in different ways (NHS, 2019a; 2019b). This workforce transformation means ASPH will need to work in a much more multi-professional way, and this includes utilising the ACP role where appropriate.
