Lands End to John O'Groats in Aid of Diabetes

Peter Sier, Assistant Patient Administration System (PAS) Manager at Ashford & St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust is taking to the road in aid of The Stephanie Marks Appeal. On May 22nd, Peter will set off from his home in Chobham and drive to Lands End. There he will begin his solo cycle ride attempting the 1,000 miles challenge to cover the length of Great Britain up to John O’Groats.

Stephanie's Appeal Hits £100,000

Ashford & St Peter’s NHS Trust launched The Stephanie Marks Appeal in June last year to significantly raise awareness of diabetes as well as raise £2.5 million to provide a specialist diabetes service spanning the Trust’s 450,000 people catchment area.

Stephanie Marks Appeal Chosen by Mayor of Elmbridge

Elmbridge`s new Mayor, Councillor Martin Schofield, today launched his Charity Appeal at local company Cargill`s Cobham office. The Mayor has decided to have a theme for his term of office the “Good Health and Well-being of the Borough” and thanked Cargill for its generous donation of £3000, which will get the appeal off to a positive start.

MRSA Rates Down at Ashford and St Peter's

National figures published this week (www.dh.gov.uk) show that rates of the so called ‘superbug’ MRSA have reduced significantly at Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals. The figures show, according to Trust Directors and Consultants that action taken last year to curb hospital infections has started to work.

Trust Delighted with Two Stars

“A good two is what we have been working towards and we are delighted with this result,” said Trust Chief Executive, Glenn Douglas, following the announcement of the 2004 NHS star ratings. “It is down to the dedication and hard work of our staff and volunteers that we have maintained and improved on our two star ranking. We narrowly missed three stars but last year was the first of two tough years for the Trust and we have proved, with nine out of nine key target areas achieved, that we can deliver.

Trust Rewarded with £100k for Exceptional A&E Performance

Health Minister Rosie Winterton has announced that Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust is to receive £100,000 extra capital to develop services across the Trust. The money had been awarded because the Trust has consistently seen 95 per cent of patients in and out of A&E within four hours or less.

Trust Appoints 100th e-Recruit

Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals is celebrating its new e-recruitment service following the appointment of the 100th person recruited on-line. Alexander Bristow, a painter and decorator, applied on-line to join the Trust and started work in June 2004. To celebrate this Alexander joined our Hospital Transfusion Practitioner Dorothy Kasibante, an early e-recruitee, to receive a bottle of champagne each from Trust Recruitment and Retention Manager Cathy Dennis.

Hospital Radio Wey has welcomed the announcement that Surrey County Council’s Local Committee for Runnymede are allocating £10,000 to Hospital Radio Wey’s New Studio Appeal to pay for a new reception area for the radio station’s volunteers.

"Shark Tale" Charity Premiere

In connection with the Mayor of Elmbridge, tickets are available to a charity premiere of Shark Tale (PG) in aid of The Stephanie Marks Diabetes Appeal and Asthma UK. This will take place at Esher cinema on Saturday 9th October. Michael Aspel and other celebrities will be amongst the Mayor’s guests. All tickets must be booked in advance from the Appeal office on 01932 722330 as they are not available from the cinema. Both adult and child admission are just £5 - all funds going towards the charities.

The New Victoria Theatre, Woking is supporting The Stephanie Marks Appeal by allowing tickets to be sold for the classic rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar. Top price tickets are available through the charity for the evening performance on Wednesday, 17 November.

Peter Davies Completes South Downs Solo Walk

Since the age of two, Peter Davies, Head of Design & Technology at Sir William Perkins’s School, Chertsey, has been insulin dependant. This has meant daily injections of insulin and regular blood tests to maintain a normal lifestyle. At the age of 50, Peter decided to embark on a week long, 105 mile challenge to raise funds for The Stephanie Marks Diabetes Appeal. He successfully achieved his goal and raised £6,000 in the process. What an achievement!

The Desborough Players Present a Charity Performance of Aladdin

The Mayor and Mayoress of Elmbridge will be attending the charity performance of Aladdin staged by the Award winning Desborough Players.
